Choir Leader: Heather Cordery

Heather is an experienced and enthusiastic primary school teacher, passionate about choral singing. At school, she leads hymn practice every week with just under 400 children and runs the school choir of around 50 children aged 7 to 11.

She has been a member of Leatherhead Choral Society since 2000 and was Chair of the society for seven years. She is currently the society’s President.

In 2014, she took over the organising of the Leith Hill Musical Festival Youth Choirs’ Competition. This is an annual event which sees youth choirs enjoying the chance to perform at Dorking Halls as they compete against each other in various age categories, from 5 to 18 years old.

Accompanist and Assistant Leader: Ian Assersohn B.Mus., ARCM, MISM

Ian has been the Musical Director of Leatherhead Choral Society since 2001. He studied piano and composition at the Royal College of Music. He is an award-winning composer, a highly experienced conductor and choral director, and has taught piano, both privately and for Surrey Arts, for many years. He is also on the grade examining panel for ABRSM.

Ian also leads Epsom Male Voice Choir and has worked as a visiting conductor with many other choirs and choral societies. His choral compositions and arrangements have been widely performed by choirs in the UK and abroad.
